Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA) Part I

Mary, the daughter of `Imran, was the best among the women (of the world of her time)
Khadija is the best amongst the women of this nation
Ever wonder what it would be like to meet someone who was truly "before their time"?
Someone whose very existence seemed to defy the norms of their era?
That's exactly who Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA) was.
Even her name, meaning "premature" because she was born before her due date, hinted at a woman who wouldn't be confined by the expectations of her day.
And trust me, she lived up to that promise in ways that still leave us in awe centuries later.
In pre-Islamic Arabia, where women were often marginalized, Khadijah (RA) stood as a towering figure of dignity, intelligence, and influence.
Before she ever met the man who would become our beloved Prophet ﷺ, she had already carved out a reputation that earned her titles like "Princess of Quraish" and "Tahira" (the Pure One).
In Makkah, the bustling center of Arabian trade, her caravans equal all the other Quraish caravans combined.
That was Khadijah's (RA) economic power.
With over 800 camels sometimes carrying her goods to Syria and Yemen, she wasn't just wealthy, she was a commercial force of nature.
She inherited wealth from both parents and two previous husbands, all adding to her considerable fortune.
Despite being constantly taken advantage of by merchants who cheated her on caravan runs, Khadijah's (RA) exceptional business acumen and intelligence allowed her to not only maintain her wealth but grow it immensely.
But what truly set her apart wasn't how much she had; it was what she did with it.
You could look up in Makkah and see a green silk banner atop her house;
Under that banner, anyone could simply knock on the side door and make a request.
Rather than living in isolated luxury, she used her resources to transform lives.
Orphans found support, the sick received care, and young couples unable to afford marriage saw Khadijah (RA) herself stepping in to pay their mahr (dowry).
Her generosity wasn't occasional charity, it was a way of life.
What's particularly fascinating about Khadijah (RA) is that she rejected idol worship long before Islam.
In a society steeped in polytheism, she maintained a pure monotheistic instinct.
Despite her beauty, education, wealth, and status, all things that typically feed the ego, Khadijah (RA) remained remarkably humble and grateful.
She moved through Makkan society with a gentle, subtle presence that commanded respect without demanding it.
Everything about her that could have made her arrogant only deepened her compassion and wisdom instead.
What Khadijah (RA) teaches us is that true greatness isn't about accumulating wealth, power, or status; it's about how we use whatever blessings we have to elevate those around us.
In a world increasingly obsessed with personal branding and self-promotion, her quiet dignity and purposeful generosity offer a profound alternative path to impact.
She understood that privilege, whether of wealth, beauty, lineage, or intelligence, isn't meant to separate us from others but to enable us to serve them better.
Today, we’ve just set the stage and covered the basics of Khadījah’s (RA) life. Interested in more?

Reflect On this:
How do you guard against arrogance when you succeed? What practices keep you grounded and compassionate?

👶 SunnahStories

In Al-Fajr town where the merchants trade, Lived a proud old mule in the stable’s shade. Faris his name, with a snort and stare, Claimed royal deeds beyond compare. "I once marched with the prince so bold, With carpets red and swords of gold! They brushed my coat, they played the drum, Now fetch my hay—I’ve surely won!" Beside him stood old Hafidh gray, Who labored slow throughout the day. "We all must work," he calmly said, "Be not so proud—bow down your head." But Faris scoffed, "You dusty thing, You’ve never seen a royal ring!"* "I was admired, I shone so bright— While you pull sacks from morn to night!"* Then came a day of sun and steam, The stable keeper set his team. He gave Faris bags of grain, | "Take these to market down the lane!" The mule stood tall, his nose in air, "Such peasant work? That isn’t fair!" He took a step with pomp and pride, Then tumbled down the road’s far side. The sacks flew off, the mud did splash, His dreams of gold were gone in a flash. The children laughed, the chickens clucked, The mule sat low, completely stuck. Then Hafidh came, still strong and slow, With heavy sacks and heart aglow. He helped him up with silent care, No boasting words, just humble prayer. "O brother mule," he gently said, "A lifted heart is not a lifted head." "The path of pride will make you fall— But sabr lifts the lowest soul."* Now Faris walks without a sound, And thanks Allah for solid ground. No tales of silk or golden drums— Just whispered dhikr as he humbly hums. |

2️⃣ What caused him to fall and feel embarrassed?
3️⃣ How did Hafidh respond to Faris’s boasting?
4️⃣ What does this story teach us about pride and humility?
5️⃣ What does the Qur’an tell us about walking proudly on the earth?
