Living the Names of Allah

Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.

We often drift through life on autopilot.

Waking, working, scrolling, sleeping — rarely pausing to remember the One for whom it is all meant.

Scholars have said: the very reason Allah ﷻ created us is to know Him.

And that’s why, when the Prophet ﷺ taught his companions, the very first lesson was not laws or politics or even worship.

It was simply: Who is your Lord?

Many people hear the hadith about Allah’s ninety-nine Names and think: If I memorize them, I’ve got my ticket to Jannah.

But our scholars have explained that the Arabic word here means far more than memorizing.

It means to safeguard, internalize, and live by them.

If you know Allah is al-Razzāq (The Provider), you will not cheat someone for a little extra money.

You will not lie on official forms to claim something you don’t deserve.

Because your heart trusts the One who provides.

That trust, not the bare syllables of a Name, is what leads to Jannah.

When someone asked the Prophet ﷺ if dressing well meant arrogance, he replied:

“Indeed Allah is Beautiful, and He loves beauty.”

If Allah ﷻ is al-Jamīl (The Most Beautiful), He loves to see beauty reflected in His servants, in their appearance, their words, their kindness, and their appreciation of His creation.

If He is al-Ṣabūr (The Most Patient), He loves to see you exercise patience, with your spouse, your children, and even the stranger who tests your nerves.

Living by His Names means allowing them to influence every intention, reaction, and choice you make.

Call Upon Him by His Names

Allah tells us: “Call upon Me by My Names.”

This is not simply sprinkling a Name into your du‘ā.

It is choosing the right Name for the right moment, just as the Prophets did.

When seeking forgiveness, they called upon al-Ghafūr (The Forgiving).

When in need of provision, they called upon al-Razzāq (The Provider).

When yearning for closeness, they called upon al-Wadūd (The Most Loving).

This transforms du‘ā into a deeply personal conversation rooted in who Allah is and what He has promised.

These names can also anchor you in constant remembrance, because in every situation, there is always a Name to guide your response and help you live prophetically.

So learn His Names.

Memorize them, but more than that, live them.

Let them shape your heart, refine your character, and guide your prayers.

Every Saturday, we’ll take a journey together, diving into one of Allah’s Names in depth, uncovering its meaning, seeing how the Prophet ﷺ embodied it, and discovering how to weave it into our daily lives.

Because when you know who Allah is, you can face anything and stand unshaken.

👶 SunnahStories

Above the trees so high and bright,

A flock of doves took peaceful flight.

They soared as one, both near and far,

Their leader wise—a dove named Tahir.

Below, a field of golden grain,

A feast they saw—a prize to gain.

But as they landed, quick and tight,

A hunter’s net pulled with its might!

The doves all flapped, they pulled, they cried,

The ropes held firm—each one was tied!

Then spoke Tahir, so calm and strong,

"My brothers, we must work as one!"

They flapped as one, in single flight,

And lifted high, their trap so tight.

The hunter gasped, his hands in air,

The doves had fled—**their strength was rare!**

Not far away, beneath a tree,

A mouse named Jafar came to see.

"O doves, come down, I’ll set you free,

My teeth are small but sharp indeed!"

He chewed the ropes, both thick and thin,

Until the birds could flap again.

Then near them came, with steps so slow,

A black crow, whispering low.

"O mouse so kind, you help with grace,

Though I am different in my face."

Then Jafar smiled and shook his head,

"A friend is one who helps, not dreads!"

For strength is found in hearts so true,

When hands unite in all we do.

And thus they stayed—so kind, so near,

A lesson bright, for all to hear.
