DAILYREFLECTION
Why did you not inform me? Show me his grave (or her grave).
Who in your life would you notice was gone?
There was a woman in Madinah who used to sweep the masjid. When she died, no one thought to tell the Prophet ﷺ. It seems they treated her passing as too small to mention.
He noticed she was missing. He asked about her, and when he heard, he asked to be shown her grave and prayed over her there.
A crowd makes it easy to miss people. Each of us quietly assumes someone closer or more qualified will step in, so often no one does. Then one person moves, and others join in.
Every masjid has its sweepers. The aunty who sets out the chairs before the halaqa. The brother who locks up after Isha. The kid who puts back the mushafs everyone else leaves out. Your office has them too, and your building, and your family group chat. They're the easiest people to stop seeing.
So be the one who notices. Ask after them the way he ﷺ did.
First step: at Maghrib tonight, think of one regular who hasn't been around lately, and message them before you sleep.
Reflect on this: Who would I notice was gone, and who would notice me?
