Indeed, Allah commands you to return trusts to their rightful owners
You may have thought of the book before finishing that sentence. Or the charger. Or the dish whose owner has been too polite to mention it.
We can leave the cupboard closed for another day. But now that a particular object has come to mind, there is a small kindness available: we can take responsibility for getting it home.
A borrowed thing can settle into a house very comfortably. After a while we know exactly where it belongs on our shelf, and forget that its owner has an empty space somewhere too.
If the agreed borrowing time is still running, honor that arrangement. If we have finished using it, a message can begin the return: “Your book is still here. Would Tuesday evening suit you?”
The lender gets a useful answer. We get a chance to follow through without waiting to be reminded.
If something has been lost or damaged, the message will be harder to send. Start with the truth, then discuss what would put it right. We can leave the long explanation for when it is actually needed.
There is no need for a grand clean-out. One object can go back to one person who trusted us with it.
Please take it down from the shelf and arrange a return that suits them.
