Al-‘Abbas, the uncle of the Prophet ﷺ, was captured during the battle of Badr.
At that time, he was fighting on the side of Quraysh.
Known for his size and strength, he was brought forward by a short, stout Ansari companion.
Feeling embarrassed, al-‘Abbas said, “This man did not capture me!”
The Ansari replied, “No, I captured him!”
But al-‘Abbas shook his head. “No. The man who captured me had parted hair and was the most handsome person I’ve ever seen. He rode a stunning horse, black and white, but I don’t see him now.”
Still, the Ansari insisted, “It was me, O Messenger of Allah.”
The Prophet ﷺ responded with a knowing smile:
“Be quiet, for Allah helped you with a noble angel.”
The companions struck, but the angels completed the blow.
They ran into battle, and the unseen forces ran beside them.
The help of Allah descended, but only after they moved.
The world around us offers glimpses into the precision of Allah’s divine decree (Qadr).
We’ve all seen those viral clips, a pedestrian narrowly missed by speeding cars, or someone standing unharmed in the middle of a multi-vehicle collision.
Moments like these remind us of something extraordinary: we are being protected.
Allah has appointed guardian angels for every soul on this earth to accompany us.
The Qur’an tells us that:
For each one there are successive angels before and behind, protecting them by Allah’s command.
Indeed, Allah would never change a people’s state ˹of favour˺ until they change their own state ˹of faith˺.
Two angels record our deeds.
Two serve as our protectors.
Even this proportion speaks volumes about Allah’s mercy and care for us.
They never leave our side.
They are present in the moments that change our lives and the ones we barely notice.
These angels protect us in ways we can’t even comprehend, whether from serious accidents or something as small as an ant trying to bite us.
We often spend so much mental energy worrying about Shaytan’s influence, forgetting the constant, powerful angelic presence surrounding us.
What if we flipped that perspective?
What if we placed our trust where it truly belongs and found peace in the protection Allah has lovingly placed around us?
Understanding this unseen reality can transform our relationship with fear and anxiety.
Modern psychology tells us we’re wired with a negativity bias.
We focus on threats, danger, and what might go wrong.
But our tradition offers a beautiful counterbalance to this mindset.
Yes, guardian angels protect us always.
But the true power of their presence is activated when we strive.
When we show up with sincerity.
When we move in faith, then divine assistance flows.
And when harm does reach us, it’s not because we were abandoned or left unprotected.
It’s because that particular trial was written for us.
The angels only move aside when the decree arrives.
And any hardship that reaches you is a moment specifically chosen for your growth and your good.
So how differently might we live if we remembered these companions were always with us?
For some, that awareness creates a sense of hayaa, a modesty born from knowing we are never truly alone.
For others, it brings courage and strength.
The kind that carries us through weakness and difficulties.
So the next time life feels overwhelming, remember:
You are not just being guarded.
You are being guided, strengthened, and assisted with remarkable care.
Reflect On this:
How can the knowledge that Allah specifically permitted any harm that reaches you help you face difficulties with greater resilience and trust?
🎬️ Ready. Set. Action!
Take 5 minutes today to consciously acknowledge and feel the presence of the angels accompanying you.

Beneath the stars, in desert bright,
A monkey danced—a joyful sight!
He flipped, he clapped, he spun around,
The people cheered, their laughter loud.
A camel watched with jealous eye,
"Why not for me? They cheer so high!"
"I am so tall, so big, so strong—"
"Yet praise is his, and this feels wrong!"
He stomped ahead, so proud, so bold,
"Now watch me dance! See grace unfold!"
He shook his hump, he kicked and spun,
But oh! His steps were not much fun!
He crashed through pots, the carpets tore,
The people screamed, "No more! No more!"
The monkey laughed, the camel sighed,
For dancing was not meant for pride.
A leader spoke with wisdom true,
"Each gift is special, meant for you."
"The monkey dances, you are strong—"
"So find your place where you belong."
And so the camel bowed his head,
And walked with peace and joy instead.
For envy fades when hearts can see,
That worth is found in destiny.
Reflection Questions:
1️⃣ Why was the camel jealous of the monkey?
2️⃣ What mistake did Jahl make when he tried to dance?
3️⃣ What lesson did the camp leader teach about humility?
4️⃣ Can you think of a time when you wanted to be like someone else?
5️⃣ How can we appreciate our own talents instead of comparing ourselves to others?
