The Angels Beside You Part II

Bismillah. This is DailySunnah.
Ever noticed how, after making a mistake, there's this brief window where your conscience feels extra loud?
Like that moment after clicking "send" on a message you instantly regret, or that split second after saying something unkind?
There's a fascinating spiritual reality behind these moments that few of us truly appreciate.
Here’s what we have for you today:

We've all been there, teetering on the edge of a bad decision.
You’re just about to do something you know you shouldn’t.
The temptation builds.
Shaytan’s whispers find their mark. You’re seconds away from crossing the line…
Then suddenly, something shifts.
A moment of clarity breaks through the fog, and you stop yourself.
That moment is precious.
Allah mentions these people, those who suddenly awaken after being touched by the whisper of the devil.
They see clearly again.
They turn back before falling, their hearts re-centered on Him.
When you remember Allah right before committing a sin, don’t ignore that voice.
Don’t brush off that flicker of taqwa.
And don’t rationalize with thoughts like, “Well, I’ve already come this far. Might as well finish and repent later.”
That moment of remembrance is a lifeline.
If we do cross that line, when the sin is done, those moments after are critically important.
That wave of guilt is not a punishment.
It's mercy.
It’s Allah reaching out in another way, when the whispers of advice or signs weren’t enough.
Just like pain signals in the body alert us to injury, this spiritual discomfort is a signal: something needs healing.
And in that moment, we have a choice.
We can respond by turning back to Allah.
Or we can ignore the feeling, letting it harden into a spiritual callus that makes it easier to sin again.
The Qur’an tells us that we have angels at our sides, recording everything we say and do.
Not a word escapes our lips but that it is written down.
But these angels don’t just document. They can even sense our intentions.
A good intention emits a light and smells like musk to them.
A sinful intention gives off a foul stench.
Yet even here, divine mercy shines.
When a person sins, Allah commands the angel on the left, the one assigned to write evil deeds, to pause.
The Prophet ﷺ said that the angel holds his pen for “six hours.”
Not necessarily six wordly hours, but a window of time.
If during that time, the person sincerely repents:
The sin is not recorded.
Instead, a good deed is written in its place.
If the person doesn’t repent, the sin is written, but it still counts only as one.
Meanwhile, a single good deed is written as ten and can be multiplied up to 700 times or more, depending on our inner state and Allah’s generosity.
This system is not for those who sin carelessly, but for the sincere ones who slip, recognize their mistake, and say:
“I can’t believe I did that. Astaghfirullah.”
When a mistake humbles us and draws us closer to Allah, it can become a source of connection.
By contrast, a good deed done that leads to pride or self-righteousness can become a veil between us and His mercy.
Our response to sin can changee when we understand our relationship with the recording angels and the mercy embedded in that system.
Instead of spiraling into shame or despair, which only invites more sin, we can transform that energy into purpose.
Shame tells us, “I am bad.”
It leads to hiding, denial, and more destructive behavior.
Guilt only says, “I did something bad.”
It motivates change, growth, and healing.
Remember, when you slip, an angel is beside you, pen lifted, waiting.
Waiting to witness your return to your Lord.
That feeling of guilt you carry, don’t run from it.
Don’t drown in it either.
Use it as fuel.
Let it pull you back to Allah and your true self.
Even in your weakest moment, help is beside you, and Mercy is above you.
The door to heal your heart is always open.
Remember, a sin that brings a person back to Allah is better than a good deed that takes him away.
Reflect On this:
Think about the last time you caught yourself before committing a wrong action. What triggered that moment of awareness? How can you strengthen those spiritual triggers?
🎬️ Ready. Set. Action!
When feeling spiritual discomfort after a mistake, sit with the feeling for a few minutes rather than distracting yourself, then purposefully transform that emotional energy into something good.

👶 SunnahStories

Burkaan the mule was strong and wide,
He pulled up hills with heavy stride.
He never whined, he made no fuss,
Just hauled his cart without a fuss.
One sunny day, a fly came near,
And buzzed around his drooping ear.
It landed proud upon his mane,
And spoke with voice both loud and vain:
"Dear mule, you’re lucky I am here,
My wings will help you shift each gear!"
"I cool your neck, I guide your pace,
You should be grateful for my grace!"
Burkaan just walked, no words he said,
While sweat still poured around his head.
The fly grew loud, its tone grew rude,
Demanding thanks for what it viewed.
"You won’t say thanks? I’m working too!
You’d surely stop if not for you-know-who!"
Burkaan then paused, and calmly spoke,
In quiet voice that softly woke:
"O little fly, I didn't know,
That you were here upon my brow."
"I pull the weight, I bear the yoke,
Your buzzing words are just a joke."
"Real work is done with no demand,
No trumpet call, no clapping hand."
"So if you think you’ve helped today,
Then fly along and go your way."
The fly, now red, flew off ashamed,
No longer proud, no longer claimed.
And others saw what truth had shown—
Real strength is often quiet… alone.
Reflection Questions:
1. What kind of work did Burkaan the mule do each day?
2. Why did the fly think he was helping?
3. How did Burkaan respond to the fly’s arrogance?
4. What does this story teach us about showing off or seeking praise?
5. How can we work hard sincerely, without needing others to notice?
