Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah by the displeasure of the people, Allah will suffice him against the people.
And whoever seeks the pleasure of the people by the displeasure of Allah, Allah will entrust him to the people.
Social rejection triggers the same pain centers in our brain as physical injury.
Our ancestors needed the tribe to survive, so being cast out meant death.
That's why humiliation can make our hearts race, our palms sweat, and our minds go completely blank.
Islam teaches us never to be the source of someone's humiliation.
We don't mock, we don't ridicule, we don't tear others down with our words, whether face-to-face or behind the safety of a screen.
The Prophet ﷺ warned us that humiliating a believer is among the gravest sins.
But we're also called to stand for justice, even when it's uncomfortable, even when our voices shake.
Even when we know we might become the topic of tomorrow's conversations.
Think about it: every prophet faced ridicule.
Every truth-teller in history dealt with mockery.
Yet they spoke anyway.
Not because they didn't feel the fear, but because they trusted in something greater than people's opinions.
So, how do we move from paralyzing fear to purposeful courage?
It starts with remembering that our worth isn't determined by public opinion.
We're valued by the One who created us, and that's enough.
When we see injustice, we can start small.
A quiet word of support to someone being mistreated.
A gentle correction when someone spreads harmful gossip.
A refusal to laugh along when others are being mocked.
We practice building our courage muscle in low-stakes situations so when the big moments come, we're ready.
Remember, people's memory of your moment of supposed "humiliation" fades faster than you think.
But your silence in the face of injustice?
That stays with you much longer.
Reflect on this:
When did fear of judgment last stop you from doing right?
What did you think of today's reflection?

👶 SunnahStories

Upon the shore so bright and wide,
A fisherman worked by the tide.
He cast his nets, both strong and true,
And trusted Allah to send his due.
Some days were full, some days were dry,
Yet never did he heave a sigh.
"For rizq is sent," he’d softly say,
"By Allah’s will, both night and day."
One afternoon, he watched with glee,
As children played so joyfully.
Their flutes they played, their tunes so light,
And birds above danced in delight.
"If music calls the birds so free,"
"Perhaps the fish will come to me!"
"Why toil and sweat? I’ll simply play,"
"And watch the fish swim up my way!"
And so he piped from dawn to noon,
He played his flute, he hummed a tune.
But waves just rolled, the sea stood still,
No fish arose, nor swam at will.
The day was lost, the sun was low,
His belly ached, his heart sank slow.
"Foolish me," he cried at last,
"I must return to what has passed."
He cast his net, both firm and wide,
And fish leapt forth from rolling tide.
"The sea gives not to those who stand,"
"But those who work with patient hands."
