The Prophet ﷺ shared a story that illuminates the unseen reality behind sincere love.

One day, a man set out on a journey to visit his friend.

As he traveled along the path, he was stopped by a stranger who asked where he was headed.

"I'm going to visit my good friend," the man replied.

The stranger's eyes narrowed suspiciously, and he began asking a series of questions:

"Does he owe you anything?" the stranger inquired.

"No," the man answered.

"Are you trying to get some favor from him?"

"Oh, he must be someone worth knowing in the future?"

"Maybe you're just feeling bored and want some entertainment?"

To each question, the man answered no.

Finally, the man declared, "The only reason I'm visiting is that I love him for the sake of Allah."

At this, the stranger's face transformed, and he said:

"I am an Angel and a messenger sent by Allah to inform you that Allah loves you just as you have loved your brother for His sake."

The Prophet ﷺ explained that when someone visits another person purely for Allah's sake, an angel makes dua for you in the spiritual realm:

"May you be blessed, may your path always be filled with goodness, may all your worldly steps be blessed."

By releasing all potential worldly benefits you might receive from the person, you receive a comprehensive blessing that encompasses everything you could have wanted and infinitely more.

The Foundation of Love That Transcends

Think back to a time when someone’s interest in you felt tied to what they could gain.

Maybe it was the friend who only called to complain, the relative who reached out only when they needed something, or the acquaintance who monopolized the conversation until it was your turn to speak, then suddenly had to run.

That hollow, nagging sense of being valued for what you provide rather than who you are builds an invisible barrier between you.

Modern studies confirm it: when our connections feel transactional, we experience less satisfaction, more stress, and a reduced sense of belonging.

Now imagine uprooting that mindset and replacing it with love purely for Allah’s sake.

When you reach out without expectation, simply because you genuinely care, the dynamic transforms, and the other person can feel it.

There’s something almost magical in that moment: your sincerity cuts through the noise of everyday exchanges and lands like a breath of fresh air.

Such unadulterated love also frees our hearts from resentment and jealousy, sustaining itself even when there’s nothing material or social to gain.

It shifts our focus entirely—from what we might take to what we can give

In a world where so many interactions come with an unspoken price tag or self-centeredness, this kind of pure kindness is a rare treasure.

Reflect On this:

  1. Before calling or visiting someone, take a moment to audit your intentions. Ask yourself the angel's questions: Am I hoping to get something from this interaction?

This doesn't mean canceling the interaction if you discover mixed motives, but rather acknowledging them and striving to purify your intention.

🎬️ Ready. Set. Action!

  1. Schedule a check-in with someone solely for Allah's sake, particularly those who cannot benefit you in any worldly way. This could be an elderly community member, someone who has fallen on hard times, or simply someone you wish to reconnect with.

👶 SunnahStories

In gardens green with blossoms fair,

Where sunlight danced upon the air,

A sparrow chirped from tree to tree,

With cheerful heart and flying free.

His feathers plain, his body small,

But oh, his song would bless them all.

He’d greet the dawn with notes so sweet,

And land with joy on minaret’s peak.

But one day came a bird so bright,

A peacock crowned in jeweled light.

His tail was wide, his colors grand,

He strode with pride across the land.

The people cheered and clapped aloud,

They gathered close, a happy crowd.

While little Sami, on a vine,

Felt plain beneath the peacock’s shine.

“Why did Allah make me so bare?

No one looks or stops to care.

My wings are fast, but I’m unseen—

I wish I had that peacock’s sheen.”

A nightingale named Layla flew,

She heard his sigh and gently knew.

She said, “O friend, don’t let this be—

You miss what’s meant especially.”

“The peacock’s beauty fills the land,

But you, dear sparrow, take a stand.

You fly to places he can't go,

You touch the sky, you spread shukr so.”

That night the mosque stood still and high,

With crescent glowing in the sky.

And Sami sang his morning tune,

As stars gave way to early moon.

The peacock watched with humble eye,

And whispered low, “SubhanAllah.”

For though his tail was beauty’s mark,

The sparrow’s voice lit up the dark.

📖 “And do not wish for what Allah has favored some of you over others…” (Qur’an 4:32)
