Make use of medical treatment
We can be generous with advice to seek help and strangely reluctant to take it ourselves. Someone we love describes a worry, and we offer to find a number or drive them to an appointment.
Our own concern can wait. We have an explanation ready before anyone has asked.
Sometimes the hesitation is practical: the cost, the time away from work, the difficulty of finding care. Those barriers deserve help and understanding.
Sometimes we are afraid of what we might hear. And sometimes a quieter worry follows us: perhaps asking for professional help means we have failed to trust Allah enough.
People brought their question about treatment to the Prophet ﷺ. His response gives the hesitant person room to seek care while continuing to ask Allah for healing.
We can carry du'a into a waiting room. We can tell a clinician what has been difficult and admit that we do not understand a word they have used.
The person we usually try to be, capable and reassuring, may need a little rest from answering every question. For once, we can bring the questions ourselves.
An appointment cannot promise the answer we hope for. Some of us already know the weariness of seeking care while a difficulty continues.
That weariness deserves tenderness, too. We can keep each other company without measuring anyone's faith by their recovery.
Perhaps the first conversation will be awkward. Perhaps we will need someone beside us to begin it.
May Allah make it easier for us to say what hurts, and make good care easier to reach.
