DAILYREFLECTION
Whoever prays the two cool prayers ('Asr and Fajr) will go to Paradise.
Five prayers fill your day. Two of them carry a promise all their own.
Angels take turns with you, one group by night and one by day, and both gather at Fajr and at Asr.
Allah, who knows best, asks the ones leaving how they left His servants. They answer that they left them praying, and found them praying.
So these are the two moments your day changes hands.
They're also the two that life pulls on hardest. Sleep tugs at Fajr, and the busy afternoon tugs at Asr.
This month, Fajr got kinder. It comes almost two hours later than in July, often close to when the house wakes anyway.
Asr moved the other way. It now comes in before 4 pm in much of North America, right in the school run, the baby's nap, a shift or a lecture.
Its chosen time lasts until the sun turns yellow. The prayer still counts until sunset, but delaying it into that last stretch without a reason is disliked.
With sunset around 6:15, that window closes fast.
Guard the harder one.
Pray Asr early in its time, before the afternoon swallows it.
First step: this morning, set a daily Asr alarm on your phone, with fifteen minutes blocked out for it, wherever your afternoon takes you.
One night, he ﷺ looked up at the full moon and told his Companions they would see their Lord as plainly as they saw it. In the same breath, he ﷺ told them to guard the prayer before sunrise and the prayer before sunset.
That is the hope these two prayers carry.
Reflect on this: When the angels report on my day, will they find me praying at Asr?
